LACMA to Show Hubbard/Birchler's "Flora"

LACMA will present the American debut of Teresa Hubbard and Alexander Birchler's Flora, a work that generated buzz at the 2017 Venice Bienniale. It's a two-sided video installation centering on the life of American artist Flora Mayo, who became Giacometti's lover and ended up down and out in Los Angeles, working as a janitor. Hubbard and Birchler tracked down Mayo's son David in L.A., uncovering a rich trove of letters and documents. Flora is a unique work telescoping the usual succession of biography to documentary to biopic. "Teresa Hubbard/Alexander Birchler: Flora" runs in the Resnick Pavilion Jan. 20–Apr. 7, 2019.
