Nevertheless, She Persisted

Big museum shows can't plan on being topical. The Hammer's "Adrian Piper: Concepts and Intuitions, 1965–2016" took four years to organize and debuted at the Museum of Modern Art this March. It landed at the Hammer the evening of the day that a perjurer and arguably unsuccessful rapist was appointed to the Supreme Court.

The national mood supplies a trenchant backdrop to many of the 270-some works on view. Piper hasn't been shown in depth on the West Coast. The Hammer exhibition will likely be the most talked-about show of L.A.'s fall season.

At least Bill Clinton wasn't nominated to the Supreme Court. Nice liberals.
