Mineo Mizuno Commission for Huntington

Reclaimed timber pieces in Mineo Mizuno's studio
Mineo Mizuno is creating a 16-foot reclaimed timber sculpture for the Huntington's garden north of the Munger Research Center. Titled Homage to Nature, it is to debut May 25, 2024 and will be on display for five years. The wood will be charred to stand up to the elements—a Japanese technique known as "yakisugi."

LACMA showed Mineo's Harmony, a teahouse of Sierra foothill tree branches, in 2019. The artist created three pieces for the Huntington Gallery; a large ceramic, Teardrop With Calligraphy "Zero," is on view in the Virginia Steele Scott Galleries for American Art.
