Robert Therrien, No title (stacked plates, white), 1993. The Broad

The Broad's next loan exhibition will be "Robert Therrien: This Is a Story" (Nov. 22, 2025–Apr. 5, 2026). It will include 120 objects from throughout the L.A. sculptor's career, ranging from outsized housewares to actual-size snails.

Artworks like Therrien's gigantic card table and folding chairs are one reason why museums need more square footage, not less.

Also, that's necessary to not trigger the reaction of "is that all there is?" MOCA across the street tends to cause that, but it helps it's now at least free to visit.

Even the size of the Broad, circa 2015, isn't necessarily much more satisfying, so the need for its expansion is almost a given.
