Koons "Split-Rocker" Rises
Jeff Koons, Split-Rocker (under installation), 2000. LACMA, gift of Lynda and Stewart Resnick |
LACMA has started assembling Jeff Koons' Split-Rocker. Visible behind construction fences, it's south of Wilshire, to the east of the David Geffen Galleries. The framework contains an irrigation system for living plants and flowers. When finished, Split-Rocker will be 37 ft. high and the tallest artwork on the LACMA campus.
Vast Sky Media has 360° drone footage.
Comments
The Piano-designed canopy, which is reminiscent of the way a cafeteria in LA public schools over 50 years ago was setup, should have been pulled down and the Geffen merged over its location.
The boxcar structures around the canopy and used for ticketing or dining always made LACMA look makeshift. So replacing them with areas in the first level of the Geffen is an improvement and long overdue.
