The California Science Center has announced Nov. 13, 2026, as the opening date for its Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center. Rising twenty stories above the Exposition Park rose garden (to display the space shuttle Endeavor in its vertical launch configuration), the Ochin Center will also fit a Korean Airlines 747 into its approximately 200,000 square feet of programmable space.

The Oschin will cap a year of museum openings in Los Angeles that includes LACMA's David Geffen Galleries, Dataland, and the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art (to open Sep. 22).

The interior pic reminds me of the "iconic 94-foot blue whale [that] hangs in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Weighing 21,000 pounds, this life-sized foam and fiberglass model represents the largest animal ever known to have lived on Earth."

Looks almost real. Which makes me think of a report yesterday that suggests today's society is truly staring into the abyss.

News has come out that a very powerful form of AI has managed to break into encrypted parts of a US government agency where high security is of the utmost importance. Reports said the AI program was able to do that in hours, not days.

As for the Oschin, it's just east of the Natural History Museum, which, in turn, is where LA's pre-Wilshire public art museum was once located. In 2026, LACMA is still showing a 60-year-old hangover from that, and AI may make mincemeat of both that and LA's economy linked to the museum west of the Geffen Galleries. In turn, DataLand's shelf life probably will be affected by the same thing.

A perfect circle..

Completing the perfect circle:

The LANHM suspended an intact fin whale skeleton in mid-air in the Otis Booth Pavilion -- Oschin Center to AMNH to LANHM to Oschin Center.

Skill in science (eg, space shuttle), creativity, athletics, technology and engineering never cease to amaze:

That work is just the opposite of LACMA. Or the opposite of, "Huh?! how did they do that?!" The museum is more like, "Huh, why did they do that?!" Since (ta-da!) 1965 too.

Govan and his staffers sure ain't no Jan van Eyck.

Visual splendor also predates technological splendor too. France's Palace of Versailles looked like the opposite of a concrete parking garage, but because it didn't have what today are known as restrooms/bathrooms (such as in the Geffen Galleries), visitors to the home of France's king and court would complain of the stench from people urinating and defecating all over the place.

Then again, 10 miles east of LACMA is a section (etc) of LA that smells presumably as bad as that of 17th-century France.

So just as 2026 compared with 1965 is a case of "as much as things change, some things never change," the same is true of Skid Row 2026 compared with Versailles 1682.

Oh, well. lol.

The Endeavour in launch formation is going to be a spectacular sight.

A fun parallel will be the N-1 Starfighter hanging in one of the lobbies of the Lucas Museum down the block.
