Kara Walker, The Mountaintop, 2025. The Broad

The Broad has acquired Kara Walker's nearly 11-ft-wide watercolor-and-sumi ink collage, The Mountaintop. It's part of a series inspired by an illustrated Popular History of the United States published the decade after the Civil War. Sprüth Magers Berlin showed the series in Nov. 2025.

The Mountaintop becomes the 11th work by Walker in the Broad collection. It's now on view.
