Academy Museum Moves Opening to April 2021
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures' opening date has been pushed back to Apr. 30, 2021 "as a result of the global pandemic." The opening had been set for December 14, 2020, as announced by Tom Hanks at the last Oscars telecast. Hanks later became one of the first celebrities to contract COVID.
The Academy Museum's move runs counter to the wave of museums talking about reopening this summer or fall. In effect the Academy is admitting that COVID is likely to remain a major threat throughout 2020—at least.
