The New York Times has a piece on the La Brea Tar Pits & Museum, including this updated rendering from Weiss Manfredi.
Marion Weiss and Michael Manfredi's New York firm won the 2019 redesign competition with a proposal they call Loops and Lenses. At the time the new building (left) was described as conceptual. It's still in the new render three years later, so maybe it's becoming more likely. No opening date has been announced.

So if low C02 was a problem eons ago, is too much of it going to foment another drawn-out drought and excessive warming in the 21st century?
The huge underpass of the nearby LACMA - protected from the glare of the sun - may be just what the doctor (of climate & architecture) ordered. Think: Water Court's overpass on Olive St north of 4th St, south of MOCA and the Broad.
That "eyelid' gallery is the perfect counterpoint to the LACMA/Geffen galleries --- the latter rises above, the former peeks out of the ground.
