The Museum of Jurassic Technology, which trolls the conventions of museum display, is creating an ersatz Andalusian ceiling for this fall's PST ART. Matt Stromberg's report for Hyperallergic includes a spectacular photo of the new latticed wood (laceria) ceiling, based on those of Medieval al-Andalus.

The MJT exhibition, "A Veiled Gazelle—Intimations of the Infinite and Eternal," opens Sep. 26, 2024. The ceiling will remain in place indefinitely as part of MJT's evolving Gesamtkunstwerk.

Comments

The MJT ceiling, to me, is disappointing. I lived in Southern Spain in my youth and visited countless places built before and after the Muslim rulers were expelled in 1492 CE. The ceilings in Spain are heavy cream; the MJT ceiling is skim milk. I'm being generous.
Open the Hyperallergic article to see the otherworldly apex of Spanish ceiling art, at the Hall of the Two Sisters of the Alhambra Palace in Granada.
If you never see another architectural complex, see the Alhambra.
