Self-Taught Art to Palm Springs

Los Angeles collector Gordon W. Bailey has donated 17 works by American self-taught artists to the Palm Springs Art Museum. The gift includes pieces by Leroy Almon, Sam Doyle, Roy Ferdinand, Daniel Johnston, Harry Lieberman, Sister Gertrude Morgan, Herbert Singleton, Willie Tarver, Mose Tolliver, Purvis Young and others.

Bailey has been distributing works from his collections to museums nationwide. The Palm Springs gifts, many by African-American artists from the South, add a new dimension to the PSAM collection, largely centering on West Coast modernism.
