Academy Museum Crawls to $388 Million Finish Line

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has met its pre-opening fundraising goal of $388 million. A donation from stop-motion animation studio LAIKA (Coraline, Corpse Bride. etc.) put the campaign over the top. The press release doesn't say how big that donation was, but the last reported total was $368 million this January

LAIKA's gift was substantial enough to cop a naming opportunity. The LAIKA Gallery will debut with an installation of the recently acquired pre-cinema collection of Richard Balzer.

The museum is set to open April 30, 2021.
