Wende Museum to Show Moon Rock
The Wende Museum of the Cold War is to display a lunar sample ("moon rock") as a permanent loan from NASA. The sample was collected in 1971 by Apollo 15 astronaut David Scott, who sits on the Culver City museum's Council of Advisors.
The sample is not yet on view, but the museum has prepared a display incorporating space race memorabilia from the Eastern Bloc.
Apollo mission lunar samples have been broadly distributed to museums and other institutions. In greater L.A., moon samples can be seen at Griffith Observatory, the California Science Center, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace.
