The Getty Research Institute has acquired about 4625 photographs of colonial India and South Asia from British dealers Ken and Jenny Jacobson. Trained as chemists, the Jacobsons became photography dealers in rural Essex. The works in the GRI acquisition were assembled by the Jacobsons over 50 years and span photography's inception in the Subcontinent to India's 1947 independence. Most of the collection's 235 photographers are not held in any other American institution.
