A Houseago Totem at LACMA

LACMA is showing Thomas Houseago's Rattlesnake Figure (carving), 2010, a loan from the artist. The title refers to Rattlesnake Park, near the artist's Frogtown studio. Created from a 12-foot-high redwood block, the sculpture references the direct carving of Brancusi and German Expressionism (a movement on view in adjacent galleries).

LACMA is going to be awash in so much red ink to accommodate their Govan-Zumthor slash-and-burn reconstruction, they'll be lucky to have enough money left over for toilet paper for their bathrooms.
