Manet Philosophers Coming to Pasadena

Édouard Manet, Beggar with Oysters (Philosopher), 1865/67. The Art Institute of Chicago

Add another blue-chip focus exhibition to the fall schedule: The Norton Simon Museum will be showing three of Manet's full-length "Philosophers," two on loan from the Art Institute of Chicago. The third is the Ragpicker in the NSM collection.

Manet admired Velázquez's imaginary portraits of Aesop and Menippus in the Prado. The French artist's philosophers are Parisian beggars and street people.

"Manet's Philosophers from the Art Institute of Chicago" will run Nov. 19, 2021 to Feb. 28, 2022.
