Writing in The Art Newspaper, Jori Finkel has an update on LAXART's new building (opening this Oct.) and director Hamza Walker's upcoming Confederate monuments show for MOCA. Despite difficulties with wary lenders, Walker has secured loans of 14 decommissioned monuments and purchased another outright (the Charlottesville Stonewall Jackson, by Charles Keck). The show will present the pro-Confederate statuary in the context of artworks addressing slavery, racism, and the notion of a monument. The contemporary pieces will include Hank Willis Thomas' A Suspension of Hostilities. This is the upended replica of the car from TV's The Dukes of Hazzard, shown at Kayne Griffin Corcoran in 2020.

The "Monuments" show is now planned for fall 2023 at MOCA Geffen.
