Academy Museum Announces $25 Ticket Price (Red Carpet Simulation Extra)

Sketch of sci-fi themed gallery, Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has announced ticket prices: $25 adult admission; $19 for seniors (62+); $15 for students; free for visitors 17 or younger (thanks to Mellody Hobson and George Lucas, who have their own museum project); free to California residents with an EBT card. The so-called Oscars Experience, a cringey red carpet simulation where the visitor accepts a pretend Academy Award, is a separate $15 ticket that must be purchased with general admission.

The latter is a little steep, but otherwise these admissions are cheaper than I guessed in Feb. 2020. They're in line with neighboring LACMA (which also tops out at $25) and the Petersen Automotive Museum ($16). Academy Museum ticketing will start Aug. 3, 2021, via the website and a new app. The museum opens Sep. 30, 2021.
