New for 2017

Some late-coming exhibition announcements for 2017:
"Larry Bell: Pacific Red" runs at the Weisman Museum, Pepperdine Malibu, Jan. 21–Apr. 2, 2017. It's a historical survey spanning the late 1950s through the present. Presumably it includes or is related to the Pacific Red installation shown at Art Basel Hong Kong last April.
"Dubuffet Drawings, 1935-1962," currently at the Morgan Museum and Library, comes to the UCLA Hammer Museum Jan. 29–Apr. 30, 2017. Shown at top, The Swindle, 1962.
Tony Smith's monumental Smoke will anchor a show of about 25 related objects at LACMA. (Feb. 26–July 2, 2017.)
Octavia E. Butler is having a moment. The subject of "Radio Imagination" at the Armory Center for the Arts (through Jan. 8, 2017), she will receive an exhibition at the Huntington, which holds her archive. "Octavia E. Butler: Telling My Stories" will have about 100 of the science-fiction author's letters, manuscripts, photographs, and memorabilia. Below, the inside cover of a 1988 commonplace book. (Apr. 8–Aug. 7, 2017.)
