Popular exhibits of Robert Mapplethorpe, Hellenistic bronzes, and Louis XIV tapestries boosted Getty Center and Villa attendance to just over 2 million for fiscal 2016, says the Getty Trust's 2016 Report. "Robert Mapplethorpe: The Perfect Medium" accounted for over 400,000 visitors, edging out Herb Ritts(!) for most-attended photography show at the Getty.
Going by the latest numbers, the two-site Getty is the fourth most visited U.S. art museum, after the Met, National Gallery, and MoMA.
